George Mount

George Lewis Mount, born September 14, 1955, is an American Olympic and professional cyclist. He achieved sixth place at the 1976 Montreal Olympics road race and went on to have a successful professional career. Mount played a significant role in promoting American cycling on the international stage and was the first American to break into European road racing. In recognition of his accomplishments, he was inducted into the United States Bicycling Hall of Fame in 1997. Nicknamed 'Smilin' George', Mount's cycling skills and powerful pedaling form were highly regarded. Born in Princeton, New Jersey, Mount's journey in cycling began after he met cycling enthusiast and race promoter Peter Rich in Berkeley, California.
