Gil Scott-Heron

Gilbert Scott-Heron (April 1, 1949 – May 27, 2011) was an American jazz poet, singer, musician, and author. He gained recognition as a spoken-word performer in the 1970s and 1980s, collaborating with musician Brian Jackson to blend jazz, blues, and soul with socially and politically charged lyrics. Scott-Heron referred to himself as a 'bluesologist' and his poem 'The Revolution Will Not Be Televised', delivered over a jazz-soul beat, had a significant impact on hip hop music. His albums, notably Pieces of a Man and Winter in America, were influential in the development of hip hop and neo-soul genres. His work received critical acclaim, with 'The Revolution Will Not Be Televised' being particularly celebrated.
