Glenn Loury Biography
Glenn Cartman Loury is an American economist, academic, and author. He is currently the Merton P. Stoltz Professor of the Social Sciences and Professor of Economics at Brown University, where he has been teaching since 2005. Loury made history when he became the first African American professor of economics at Harvard University to achieve tenure at the age of 33. Initially known as a prominent black conservative intellectual during the Reagan Era, Loury later shifted towards more progressive views in the mid-1990s. In recent years, he has realigned somewhat with conservative-leaning views. Loury was born and raised in the South Side of Chicago, Illinois, and overcame challenges such as growing up in a redlined neighborhood. Before attending college, he worked at a printing plant to support his two children and pursued his education at Southeast Junior College, eventually earning a scholarship to study at Northwestern University.
