Gordon Alexander
Gordon Reuben Alexander (1885 – 24 April 1917) was a British fencer who competed in the individual foil and épée events at the 1912 Summer Olympics. In addition to his athletic pursuits, Alexander served as a soldier during World War I. Tragically, he was killed in action while attacking the town of Villers-Plouich. During the assault, a fellow soldier was wounded by a German artillery shell, and Alexander selflessly rushed to aid him. While dressing the soldier's wound, he was struck by another shell and lost his life. Alexander's contributions to fencing were also notable, as he won the foil title at the British Fencing Championships in 1913.
