Grace Abbott

Grace Abbott (November 17, 1878 – June 19, 1939) was an American social worker known for her work in improving the rights of immigrants and advancing child welfare, particularly in the regulation of child labor. She was born in Grand Island, Nebraska, and graduated from Grand Island College in 1898. After working as a high school teacher, she pursued graduate studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In 1907, Abbott moved to Chicago and became involved in social work at Hull House, a center for women's rights and social reform. She received a Ph.M. in political science from the University of Chicago in 1909. Throughout her career, Abbott made significant contributions to social policy and advocacy for vulnerable populations.
