    Gustavo F. Velasquez is a Mexican-American public servant and former actor. He is currently the Director of the California Department of Housing & Community Development. From 2014 to 2017, Velasquez served as the Assistant Secretary of the Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity in the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Born in Oaxaca, Mexico, Velasquez obtained a B.A. in Public Administration and Political Science as well as a Master's Degree in Government Administration from the University of Pennsylvania. He also completed the Executive Program on Strategic Planning and Business Transformation at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business. Before his government roles, Velasquez worked for various organizations such as Congreso de Latinos Unidos, the District of Columbia Office of Latino Affairs, and the Latino Economic Development Center.
