Herbert Rogers Biography
Herbert James Rogers (6 March 1893 — 12 October 1916) was an English first-class cricketer and soldier. Born in Frimley, he was educated at the Bedford House School in Oxford. Rogers played club cricket for North Oxford Cricket Club and caught the attention of Hampshire secretary Francis Bacon. After joining the ground staff at Northlands Road, he made his debut in first-class cricket for Hampshire in 1912. Rogers made a total of six appearances in the County Championship before his career was interrupted by World War I. Known for his remarkable length and being 'almost unplayable' on his day, Rogers tragically lost his life during the war.
