Howard D. Schultz (born July 19, 1953) is an American businessman and author who is best known for his role as the chairman and chief executive officer of Starbucks. He served in this position from 1986 to 2000, from 2008 to 2017, and as interim CEO from 2022 to 2023. Schultz started his career at Starbucks in 1982 and later opened Il Giornale, a specialty coffee shop that merged with Starbucks. Under his leadership, Starbucks expanded its network of stores globally, revolutionizing coffee culture. Schultz took the company public in 1992 and led it through a series of highly publicized coffee wars. He returned as CEO in 2008 during the financial crisis and played a pivotal role in the company's recovery.
