Hugh Doggett Scott Jr. (November 11, 1900 – July 21, 1994) was an American politician and member of the Republican Party. He represented Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1941 to 1945 and from 1947 to 1959, and in the U.S. Senate from 1959 to 1977. Scott served as Senate Minority Leader from 1969 to 1977. Born and educated in Virginia, he moved to Philadelphia to join his uncle's law firm. Scott started his political career as an assistant district attorney in Philadelphia before winning election to the House of Representatives in 1940. He established a reputation as an internationalist and moderate Republican Congressman, and later served as Chairman of the Republican National Committee from 1948 to 1949.
