Hugo Armstrong Biography
Hugo Throssell Armstrong (9 June 1916 – 5 February 1943) was an Australian flying ace of the Royal Australian Air Force during the Second World War. Born in Perth, Armstrong joined the RAAF in May 1940 and was sent to the UK, where he served in No. 257 and No. 129 Squadrons. He achieved success in destroying a number of German aircraft during sorties to the Low Countries and France. Armstrong was later transferred to No. 72 Squadron and awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross in May 1942. He commanded No. 611 Squadron and received a bar to his DFC in January 1943. Unfortunately, he was shot down and killed over the English Channel in February 1943.
