Murray Ian Hill Brooker AM, known as Ian Brooker, was an Australian botanist. Born on June 2, 1934, in Adelaide, South Australia, Brooker was widely recognized as the leading authority on the genus Eucalyptus. He earned his B.Ag.Sc. from the University of Adelaide and his MSc and D.Sc. from the Australian National University. Brooker worked with the Soil Conservation Branch of the Department of Agriculture in South Australia and later joined the Department of Botany at the Australian National University. He also spent time with the Western Australian Herbarium. In 1970, Brooker joined the Forest Research Institute in Canberra, focusing on the taxonomy of Eucalyptus. He collected specimens throughout Australia and published numerous research papers, leaflets, and books.
