Ian David Hislop (born 13 July 1960) is a British journalist, satirist, broadcaster, and editor of the magazine Private Eye. He has gained recognition for his appearances on various radio and television programmes, including his long-standing role as a team captain on the BBC quiz show Have I Got News for You since its inception in 1990. Born in Mumbles, Swansea, Hislop's father was Scottish and his mother was from Jersey. Throughout his childhood, Hislop traveled extensively due to his father's work as a civil engineer, living in Nigeria, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Hong Kong.
