Irving Finkel

Irving Leonard Finkel (born 1951) is a British philologist and Assyriologist. He is currently the Assistant Keeper of Ancient Mesopotamian script, languages, and cultures in the Department of the Middle East at the British Museum. Finkel specializes in cuneiform inscriptions on clay tablets from ancient Mesopotamia. He obtained his PhD in Assyriology from the University of Birmingham, focusing on Babylonian exorcistic spells against demons. Prior to his current position, Finkel spent three years as a Research Fellow at the University of Chicago Oriental Institute. With his extensive knowledge in the field, Finkel has contributed significantly to the study and preservation of ancient Mesopotamian culture.
