Jack Kane
Jack Kane (23 July 1908 – 27 October 1988) was an Australian politician and coalminer. Born in Burraga, New South Wales, Kane began his career in the coal mining industry. He served as vice-president of the Transport Workers' Union from 1952 to 1956 and as Assistant General Secretary of the New South Wales Labor Party from 1952 to 1955. In 1955, he was expelled from the Labor Party and co-founded the Australian Labor Party (Anti-Communist), which later became the Democratic Labor Party (DLP). Kane held various leadership positions within the DLP, including NSW DLP General Secretary and Federal Secretary. In 1970, he was elected to the Australian Senate as a DLP Senator for New South Wales.
