Jack Kemp
Jack Kemp (1935-2009) was an American politician and professional football player. He represented the Republican Party from New York and served as Housing Secretary under President George H. W. Bush from 1989 to 1993. Prior to his political career, he had a successful 13-year tenure as a quarterback. Kemp played in the NFL, CFL, and AFL, where he became a star. He was the captain of the San Diego Chargers and Buffalo Bills, and in 1965, he earned the AFL Most Valuable Player award. As a politician, he ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 1988 and served nine terms in the United States House of Representatives from 1971 to 1989. Kemp was the Republican Party's vice presidential nominee in the 1996 election, alongside Bob Dole, but they lost to Bill Clinton and Al Gore.
