Jack Kyle

John Wilson Kyle (10 February 1926 – 27 November 2014) was a renowned rugby union player hailing from Ireland. He represented Ireland, the British and Irish Lions, and the Barbarians during the 1940s and 1950s. Kyle was part of the victorious Irish team that clinched the grand slam in the 1948 Five Nations Championship. Recognized for his exceptional skills, he was honored as one of the six players of the year by the New Zealand Rugby Almanac in 1950. His achievements led to his induction into the International Rugby Hall of Fame and the IRB Hall of Fame, which later merged to form the current World Rugby Hall of Fame. In 2002, the Irish Rugby Football Union named him the Greatest Ever Irish Rugby Player. Off the field, Kyle pursued a career in medicine, studying at Queen's University Belfast and graduating in 1951. His contributions to the medical field were acknowledged with an honorary doctorate from Queen's University in 1991 and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Irish Journal of Medical Science and the Royal Academy of Medicine in Ireland in 2007.
