Jagmeet Singh

Jagmeet Singh Jimmy Dhaliwal, born on January 2, 1979, is a Canadian politician and leader of the New Democratic Party (NDP) since 2017. He has been serving as the member of Parliament (MP) for Burnaby South since 2019. Singh, a practicing Sikh of Punjabi descent, is the first Sikh and first visible minority to lead a major federal political party in Canada. Prior to his political career, Singh worked as a criminal defence lawyer after graduating from Osgoode Hall Law School. In 2011, he contested the federal election and became a member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) for Bramalea—Gore—Malton in Ontario.
