    James Bane Biography
    James Bane (or Ben or Bennet) was a 14th-century Bishop of St. Andrews. He began his career as a canon of Aberdeen and prebendary of Cruden. James later became the Archdeacon of St. Andrews, one of the highest-ranking positions in the diocese. In 1326, he was appointed as an ambassador to France to renew the Auld Alliance by signing the Treaty of Corbeil. After the death of Bishop William de Lamberton in 1328, James won the election to fill the vacancy but was already provided to the see by Pope John XXII. He was consecrated and served as the Bishop of St. Andrews for a brief period before his death in 1332.
