James Chu Biography
James Chu is a Taiwanese-American businessman who founded ViewSonic, a prominent brand in the computer monitor industry. Born on October 23, 1957, in Pingtung, Taiwan, Chu is the fifth of six children. He started studying at the Department of Sociology at Tunghai University but dropped out before graduating. In 1986, Chu moved to California and became the president of U.S. operations at a Taiwanese keyboard manufacturer. The following year, he established Keypoint Technology Corporation, a distribution company specializing in computer peripherals. Chu introduced the ViewSonic brand in 1990 and renamed the company ViewSonic in 1993. Today, ViewSonic is among the top brands in the monitor market, ranking 5th nationwide in 1999 with a 6.9% market share in the U.S.
