James Hoare
James Edward Hoare (born 1943) is a British academic, historian, and career diplomat. He specializes in Korean and Chinese studies and has made significant contributions to the field. Hoare is a graduate of London's School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) and has been actively involved with various organizations such as the Anglo-Korean Society, the Korean Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society, and the Royal Society for Asian Affairs. He served as President of the British Association of Korean Studies (BAKS) in 2006. Hoare's diplomatic career includes being the British Chargé d'affaires in Pyongyang, where he played a crucial role in establishing a full embassy in North Korea. He has also served in Seoul and Beijing during his time with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
