James Sherwood
James Blair Sherwood (August 8, 1933 – May 18, 2020) was an American-born, British-based businessman and the founder of Sea Containers. Born in Newcastle, Pennsylvania, Sherwood grew up in Lexington, Kentucky and earned a degree in economics from Yale University. He gained knowledge about shipping during his time in the United States Navy and working for United States Lines and CTI. In 1965, Sherwood founded Sea Containers, which started as a supplier of leased cargo containers and later expanded into various shipping companies, luxury hotels, and railway trains, including the Venice-Simplon Orient Express and Great North Eastern Railway. Sherwood played a significant role in the development of Sea Containers for over forty years.
