Jan Hammenecker Biography
Jan Hammenecker (2 October 1878 - 13 June 1932) was a Flemish Roman Catholic priest, writer, and educator. Born in Mariekerke, Hammenecker's notable works include 'Verzen' (1908), 'Van Christus' apostelen' (1913), 'Zoo zuiver als een ooge' (1918), and 'Voor een ziel' (1922). He also published collections of prayers such as 'Gebeden voor het H. Hart' (1919) and 'Excubiae' (1926). Hammenecker taught Gerard Walschap, one of his pupils who went on to become a renowned writer. His contributions to Flemish literature earned him recognition and he is remembered through the Jan Hammenecker monument located in Klein-Brabant. Jan Hammenecker passed away on 13 June 1932 in Westrode.
