Jason Rezaian
Jason Rezaian (born March 16, 1976) is an Iranian-American journalist who served as Tehran bureau chief for The Washington Post. In 2014, Rezaian and his wife, Yeganeh Salehi, were arrested by Iranian authorities and accused of espionage. While Salehi was released after a few months, Rezaian remained in custody at Evin Prison. After a nine-month detention, he was indicted on charges of espionage and 'propaganda against the establishment'. In 2015, he was convicted and sentenced to a prison term, the length of which was not disclosed. He was released in January 2016. Rezaian's case attracted international attention and raised concerns about press freedom and human rights in Iran.
