Jay Maynard (born July 27, 1960) is an American computer programmer and system administrator. He is best known as the volunteer project maintainer for Hercules, a free emulator of IBM mainframe hardware. Maynard gained recognition for his self-made electroluminescent costume inspired by the film Tron, earning him the nickname Tron Guy. His costume, debuted at the science fiction convention Penguicon in 2004, quickly gained attention on the Internet after being posted on Slashdot and Fark. In 2006, Maynard appeared in the music video 'We Are the Web,' which advocated for network neutrality, alongside other Internet celebrities. Maynard continues to be an active participant in Penguicon and the technology community.
