Jeffrey "JP" Mark
Jeffrey Mark (1898 – December 1965) was an English composer, folk song collector, and writer. Born in Carlisle, Cumberland, Mark won a scholarship to the Carlisle Grammar School and later joined Martin's Bank in Carlisle. He served in the war as a gunnery officer but was gassed in France and hospitalized for a year. Mark then pursued a degree in English and Music at Exeter University before becoming a mature student at the Royal College of Music. In 1924, he moved to the US and became the head of the New York Public Library's Music Department. Mark's contributions include working on the manuscripts of Orlando Gibbons held by the library.
