Jehan Sadat
Jehan Sadat (1933-2021) was an Egyptian human rights activist and the First Lady of Egypt from 1970 until her husband's assassination in 1981. She greatly influenced the reform of Egypt's civil rights legislation during her time as First Lady. Known for her advocacy for women's rights, Sadat introduced the 'Jehan Laws', which granted women new rights such as child support and custody in the event of divorce. Born Jehan Safwat Raouf in Cairo, Egypt, she was raised in an upper-middle-class family and attended a Christian secondary school while being raised as a Muslim, as per her father's wishes.
