Jennifer Clement
Jennifer Clement (born 1960) is an American-Mexican author known for her impactful novels, memoirs, and poetry. She gained international recognition as the first female president of PEN International, a prestigious organization founded in 1921. During her presidency, she spearheaded the creation of the PEN International Women's Manifesto and The Democracy of the Imagination Manifesto. Clement also served as the President of PEN Mexico from 2009 to 2012. With her works translated into 36 languages, Clement has authored four novels, including Gun Love and Prayers for the Stolen, as well as the memoir Widow Basquiat. She has also published volumes of poetry, such as The Next Stranger. Born in Greenwich, Connecticut, in 1960, Clement spent most of her life in Mexico City, attending the Edron Academy before relocating to the United States to complete her high school education.
