Jessie Miller

Jessie Maude 'Chubbie' Miller (1902 – 1972) was a pioneering Australian aviator. In 1927, while visiting London from her native Australia, Miller met and flew with R.A.F. officer Bill Lancaster in an attempt to set a long-distance flying record from England to Australia. Although they were overtaken by another aviator en route, Miller became the first woman to complete an England-to-Australia flight. After arriving in Darwin, Miller and Lancaster embarked on a tour around Australia. In 1928, they moved to the United States in hopes of a Hollywood movie, but it was never made. Miller later became an aviator in her own right, participating in the famous 'Powder Puff Derby' of 1929.
