Jim Woods
Jim Woods (James McCarthy Woods; October 22, 1916 - February 20, 1988) was an American sportscaster known for his play-by-play work on Major League Baseball broadcasts. Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Woods began his career as a mascot for the Triple-A baseball team Kansas City Blues at the age of four. He later became the team's batboy and reader of scores on local radio. After attending the University of Missouri for a year, Woods worked as an announcer for KGLO in Mason City, Iowa, and then as the Iowa Hawkeyes football announcer. In 1953, he was hired to call New York Yankees games alongside Mel Allen.
