James John Walker, known as Beau James, was the mayor of New York City from 1926 to 1932. Born on June 19, 1881, Walker was a flamboyant liberal Democrat and a part of the powerful Tammany Hall machine. He resigned from his position amidst a corruption scandal. Walker's father, William H. Walker, was involved in local politics as a Democratic assemblyman and alderman. Despite dropping out of college, Walker graduated from New York Law School in 1904. Initially interested in the music industry, he wrote lyrics for a hit song in 1906, 'Will You Love Me in December as You Do in May?'
