Jimmy Woods
Jimmy Woods (October 29, 1934 - March 29, 2018) was an American jazz alto saxophonist. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Woods began his career playing with the R&B band of Homer Carter in 1951. He then served in the Air Force from 1952 to 1956. After his discharge, he played with Roy Milton, Horace Tapscott, Joe Gordon, Gerald Wilson, and Chico Hamilton, among others. Woods is most known for his two albums released on Contemporary Records in the early 1960s, 'Awakening!!' and 'Conflict.' 'Conflict' featured prominent musicians such as Elvin Jones, Harold Land, Carmell Jones, Andrew Hill, and George Tucker.
