Joe Hurst
Joe Hurst (born February 4, 1964) is a retired American professional basketball player. He was born in East St. Louis, Illinois. From 1982 to 1986, Hurst played college basketball for the Bearcats at Northwest Missouri State University. He was a standout player, being selected as first-team All-MIAA in 1984 and 1985. Hurst suffered an ankle injury during his final year but still left Northwest with impressive records, ranking in the top five for both career scoring (1,580 points) and rebounding (777), as well as setting the all-time blocked shots record with 153. In 1987, he had a brief stint with the Quad City Thunder in the Continental Basketball Association. In 1988, Hurst joined the Hobart Devils in the National Basketball League (NBL) in Australia, where he was named NBL Most Valuable Player and earned selection to the All-NBL Second Team. He continued to play for the Devils and the Hobart Hornets until 1992, when he split his time between Devonport in the SEABL and the Devils in the NBL.
