John Askew
John Garbutt Askew (2 September 1908 – 31 August 1942) was an English rugby player and first-class cricketer. He played as a fullback in rugby and as a right-handed batsman in cricket. Born in Gateshead, County Durham, Askew attended Durham School and later Emmanuel College, Cambridge. In cricket, he made two first-class appearances for Cambridge University Cricket Club in 1931. Askew played county cricket for Durham from 1928 to 1931, making eight appearances. In rugby, he played for Durham City, Durham County, Cambridge University, and the Barbarians. Askew earned three caps for the England national rugby union team. He passed away on 31 August 1942.
