    John B. Anderson (1922–2017) was an American lawyer and politician who served as a member of the United States House of Representatives from 1961 to 1981, representing Illinois's 16th congressional district. He was a member of the Republican Party and also served as the Chair of the House Republican Conference from 1969 to 1979. Anderson ran as an independent candidate for president in 1980, receiving 6.6% of the popular vote. Born in Rockford, Illinois, he practiced law after serving in the Army during World War II. Anderson's political views evolved over time, becoming more moderate on social issues. He was widely respected for his bipartisan approach to politics.
