John C. Burton
John Cotton Burton (March 12, 1923 – December 5, 2014) was an American cross-country skier who competed in the 1950s. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Burton was a Harvard University graduate and played ice hockey while studying. After serving in the United States Navy, he pursued a law degree at the University of Minnesota. It was during this time that Burton discovered cross-country skiing and earned a spot on the US Ski Team for the 1952 Winter Olympics in Oslo, finishing 67th in the 18 km event. Following his athletic career, Burton transitioned into a career in finance and later became an educator. He passed away on December 5, 2014.
