John E. Mack

John E. Mack (October 4, 1929 – September 27, 2004) was an American psychiatrist, writer, and professor of psychiatry. He served as the head of the department of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School from 1977 to 2004. Mack's clinical expertise included child psychology, adolescent psychology, and the psychology of religion. He was renowned for his research on teenage suicide, drug addiction, and later, the psychology of alien abduction experiences. In 1977, Mack won the Pulitzer Prize for his book A Prince of Our Disorder on T.E. Lawrence. Born in New York City to a German Jewish family, Mack's father was an academic and his mother passed away when he was an infant.
