John Knox
John Knox (Iain Cnocc; c. 1514 – 24 November 1572) was a Scottish minister, Reformed theologian, and writer. He is known as a leader of Scotland's Reformation and the founder of the Presbyterian Church of Scotland. Born in Haddington, East Lothian, Knox studied at the University of St Andrews and worked as a notary-priest. Inspired by early church reformers like George Wishart, he joined the movement to reform the Scottish church. Knox was involved in political events following the murder of Cardinal David Beaton and the regency of Mary of Guise. He was captured by French forces in 1547 and exiled to England until his release in 1549. During his exile, Knox served as a royal chaplain to King Edward VI of England and influenced the reform of the Book of Common Prayer.
