John A. Sanchez (born January 11, 1963) is an American businessman and politician. He served as the 29th lieutenant governor of New Mexico from 2011 to 2019. Sanchez, born and raised in North Valley, New Mexico, comes from a political family with a great-great grandfather who was a territorial legislator in 1860 and a grandfather who served as a state representative in 1930. Prior to his political career, Sanchez worked as a flight attendant and real estate agent. He started his own small business, Right Way Roofing, in Albuquerque. Sanchez was elected to the New Mexico House of Representatives, defeating a 30-year incumbent. During his term, he proposed significant education reform.
