Joy Oladokun is an American singer-songwriter known for her diverse musical style that incorporates elements of folk, R&B, rock, and pop. Born on April 6, 1992, in Casa Grande, Arizona, she was raised in a household that valued country and folk music along with artists like Bob Marley and Lauryn Hill. With both of her parents being Nigerian immigrants, Oladokun's music is also influenced by her identity as a queer woman of color. At the age of 10, she was inspired to learn the guitar after watching a video of Tracy Chapman. After college, she relocated to Los Angeles and eventually settled in East Nashville, where she signed with Prescription Songs. Oladokun has released four studio albums including 'Carry' (2016), 'In Defense of My Own Happiness (The Beginnings)' (2020), 'In Defense of My Own Happiness' (2021), and 'Proof of Life' (2023).
