Joyce Porter
Joyce Porter (28 March 1924 – 9 December 1990) was an English crime fiction author known for her detective novels. Born in Marple, Cheshire, she attended the High School for Girls in Macclesfield and later studied at King's College London. From 1949 to 1963, she served in the Women's Royal Air Force, specializing in intelligence work due to her proficiency in Russian. Porter left the service to focus on her writing career, having already published three detective novels. She is best known for creating the characters of Eddie Brown, Constance Ethel Morrison-Burke, and Wilfred Dover. Porter's novels were intricately plotted but infused with humor. She spent her final years in a thatched cottage in Longbridge Deverill, Wiltshire, and is buried in the churchyard of St Peter and St Paul.
