Juanita Moore Biography
Juanita Moore (October 19, 1914 – January 1, 2014) was an American film, television, and stage actress. She gained recognition as the fifth black actor to be nominated for an Academy Award, and the third in the Supporting Actress category. Moore's most notable role was as Annie Johnson in the film Imitation of Life (1959). Born in Greenwood, Mississippi, Moore moved to Los Angeles during the Great Migration. She began her career as a dancer at the Cotton Club and later became a film extra while working in theater. Moore also served as the vice president of the Original Cambridge Players. She had a friendship with Marlon Brando.
