Justin Verlander, born on February 20, 1983, is an American professional baseball pitcher who currently plays for the Houston Astros in Major League Baseball (MLB). Verlander has also played for the Detroit Tigers and New York Mets during his career. Hailing from Manakin-Sabot, Virginia, he attended Old Dominion University where he set records for strikeouts in both the Monarchs' and the Colonial Athletic Association. Verlander's achievements include helping the United States national team win a silver medal at the 2003 Pan American Games. As a member of the Tigers, he played a crucial role in four consecutive AL Central division championships and two AL pennants. Verlander is recognized for his impressive pitching career, ranking second in strikeouts and seventh in wins for the Tigers.
