Karl Otto Lagerfeld (10 September 1933 – 19 February 2019) was a German fashion designer. He began his career in the 1950s, working for fashion houses such as Balmain, Patou, and Chloé. Lagerfeld joined Chanel in 1983 as the creative director and oversaw all aspects of the brand's creative output until his death. He played a crucial role in revitalizing and reestablishing Chanel's position as a top fashion house. Lagerfeld also served as the creative director for Fendi and had his own fashion label. He collaborated on numerous fashion and art-related projects throughout his career.
