Kathryn Alexander
Kathryn Alexander (born 1955) is an accomplished American composer and professor of composition at Yale University. Born in Texas, Alexander showed a passion for music from an early age. She studied flute with Helen Ann Shanley at Baylor University and later continued her studies with Maurice Sharp at the Cleveland Institute of Music. It was during her time in Cleveland that she began composing. Seeking guidance from Donald Erb and Eugene O'Brien, she went on to earn a DMA in composition at the Eastman School of Music. Alexander became one of the first women to teach at the Eastman Computer Music Center and also studied with Leon Kirchner at the Tanglewood Music Center. Currently, she serves on the faculty of the Department of Music at Yale University, imparting her knowledge of composition and music technology.
