Kathy J. Byron is an American politician who has been a Republican member of the Virginia House of Delegates since 1998. She represents the 22nd district in the Virginia Piedmont, which includes parts of Bedford, Campbell, and Franklin Counties, as well as the city of Lynchburg. Born on September 5, 1953, Byron has been involved in various political activities during her career. In February 2012, she sponsored a bill that initially required Virginia women seeking an abortion to undergo a transvaginal ultrasound without written consent, which caused controversy. The bill was later amended by Governor Bob McDonnell to include written consent and a transabdominal ultrasound. Byron urged rejection of the amendment.
