Katie Mitchell

Katie Mitchell is an English theatre director. Born on 23 September 1964 in Reading, Berkshire, she was raised in Hermitage, Berkshire. Mitchell attended Oakham School and later studied English at Magdalen College, Oxford. She started her career at the King's Head Theatre in London and worked as an assistant director at various theatre companies, including Paines Plough and the Royal Shakespeare Company. In the 1990s, Mitchell directed several productions under her company Classics On A Shoestring and received a Time Out Award for Women of Troy. She was also awarded a Winston Churchill Travel Fellowship to study director's training in Russia, Georgia, Lithuania, and Poland, which greatly influenced her practice. Mitchell continues to be a prominent figure in the theatre industry.
