Kay Unger

Kay Unger is an American fashion designer known for her contributions to the industry. Born in Chicago, IL, Unger initially studied painting at the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts before transitioning to design at Parsons The New School for Design in New York City. After working as an apprentice for Geoffrey Beene, Unger decided to establish her own line. In 1972, she co-founded The Gillian Group, which became one of the largest suppliers of women's apparel in America. After closing The Gillian Group, Unger founded Phoebe Company LLC in 2012, where she served as the creative head and public face of the company and its brands until July 2012.
