Keith Douglas
Keith Castellain Douglas (24 January 1920 – 9 June 1944) was a poet and soldier known for his war poetry during the Second World War. He wrote a memoir about the Western Desert campaign called Alamein to Zem Zem. Douglas described his poetic style as 'extrospective,' focusing on external impressions rather than inner emotions. His work is known for its exact descriptions and is considered some of the finest soldier-poetry of the 20th century. In his poem 'Desert Flowers,' Douglas references World War I poet Isaac Rosenberg. Douglas was born in Tunbridge Wells, Kent and was unfortunately killed in action during the invasion of Normandy.
