    Kelly S. King, born on September 12, 1948 in Raleigh, North Carolina, is an American businessman and executive chairman of Truist Financial, formerly BB&T Corporation. King grew up working on his family's tobacco farm in Zebulon and later became a salesman for clothing and vacuums during high school. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration and an M.B.A. from East Carolina University. King began his career in BB&T's Management Development Program in 1972 and held various positions within the company, including manager of different regions, city executive, and business services manager. In January 2009, he became a director of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. King assumed the role of CEO on January 1, 2009.
