Kenneth Lee Salazar is an American lawyer, politician, and diplomat currently serving as the United States ambassador to Mexico. Born on March 2, 1955, Salazar previously served as the 50th United States Secretary of the Interior from 2009 to 2013 under President Barack Obama. He was a member of the Democratic Party and represented Colorado as a United States Senator from 2005 to 2009. Before his time in the Senate, Salazar served as the Attorney General of Colorado from 1999 to 2005. He made history alongside Mel Martínez as the first Hispanic U.S. Senators since 1977. Salazar's nomination as Secretary of the Interior drew mixed reactions from the environmentalist movement.
